Come to SalmonAID Festival

Saturday - Sunday, May 31 - June 1, noon - 7 pm, at Jack London Square in Oakland.

The Bay Chapter and Northern Alameda County Group of the Sierra Club have signed on as co-sponsors for the SalmonAID Festival. Come join us to celebrate wild salmon, wild rivers, and the people who depend on them with two days of food and drink, free live music, and lots of educational materials about our imperiled fish and watersheds. The ferry from San Francisco lands at Jack London Square and is a fantastic way for San Francisco residents to arrive at the festival.

Organized by the largest-ever coalition of West Coast salmon advocates (including commercial, recreational, and tribal fishers, conservation organizations, chefs, restaurants, scientists, and many others), SalmonAID will raise awareness of the plight of West Coast salmon populations, the rivers and streams they spawn in, and the many coastal and inland communities that rely on salmon for their livelihoods and survival.

The festival will feature educational booths, activities, and foods highlighting the natural history of salmon, as well as the history, culture, and traditions of salmon towns and the peoples connected through our West Coast salmon heritage - from Morro Bay CA to Bellingham WA and inland to Idaho and Nevada

SalmonAID will also feature over 20 diverse musical acts on two stages including reggae, zydeco, blues, Middle Eastern, folk, contemporary rock, and kaleidoscopic klezmer. Seven fine restaurants will serve foods; all have vowed never to serve farm-raised salmon; because the salmon-fishing season in California and Oregon has now been closed, we will be serving wild salmon from Alaska.

SalmonAID will raise funds to support education and habitat restoration efforts directed at re-establishing abundant wild, native Pacific salmon populations in Pacific watersheds.
