This month's presentation is on creating Chile's Patagonia National Park: Conservacion Patagonica's model of wilderness protection.
Conservacion Patagonica is dedicated to creating national parks that protect and restore wildlands and biodiversity, inspire care for the natural world, and generate healthy economic alternatives for communities in Patagonia. Our current focus, the Patagonia National Park project in Chile's Aysen Region, will be a 650,000-acre new protected area in key habitat, with full public access. As of 2012, we are over halfway through this ambitious initiative.
Speaker bio: Nadine Lehner, Communications Director at Conservacion Patagonica, has worked with Kris and Doug Tompkins on the creation of national parks in Chile for three years, splitting her time between Patagonia and the Bay Area. As one of the principle team members in the Patagonia National Park project, she manages its communications, outreach, and development, while helping to oversee the volunteer and intern programs.

“The Road to (and through) Morocco”. Join us at the next Diablo Group meeting for an armchair tour of Morocco. Our guides will be Al and Marie Greening rather than Bing Crosby and Bob Hope, but the photography will be much better.
Along the Atlantic portion of Morocco’s 2,200-mile coastline the Greenings visited Tangier; the capital city, Rabat; and Casablanca, the largest city and main port. Inland they visited the ancient medina of Fez and the village of Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains.
Al and Marie Greening have photographed all seven continents and a few places in between. Al, a park volunteer at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area since 1985, currently leads programs at the Point Bonita Lighthouse and photography walks in the Marin Headlands.
