Mt Davidson Habitat Restoration Project.
This is an "urban wilderness" adventure for San Francisco Sierra Club members -- a habitat restoration workparty organized and run by the Natural Areas Program (NAP) of the SF Rec and Park Department. Come learn botany and ecology, exercise your green thumbs, enjoy entertaining camaraderie, and examine public lands management issues in one of the most spectacular parts of San Francisco you didn't know still existed!
Mt. Davidson is the highest hill in San Francisco. Mt. D's eastern flank is a remarkable grassland and wildflower community where we're managing exotic weed removal and rare plant protection. Mt. D's western portion was planted with trees by Adolph Sutro a century ago, and there we're removing the monoculture of blackberry/ivy and restoring a complex mix of grasses and forbs.
The Mt Davidson workparties occur the first Saturday of every month from 9am to 12noon. Meet at the "bus turnaround" at the intersection of Myra, Dalewood and Sherwood on the south side of the hill.

Mt Davidson Habitat Restoration Project.
This month is a special event at the Golden Gate Park nursery instead of on Mt. Davidson proper. We'll be "up-planting" propagated seedlings from flats into tubes, their next home. See this recent Yodeler article for more information about this fascinating work.
This work is one of the most entertaining of our restoration activities, plus it is far easier than our usual grappling with weeds on steep hillsides. It's a great way to get introduced to the project and the Natural Areas Program.
