Descriptions:

Delta Group

The Delta Regional Group covers east Contra Costa County from Bay Point to Discovery Bay, and offers a growing activities program. Its members work on many conservation issues, including

  • Urban growth and land use planning
  • Transportation
  • Toxics and solid waste
  • Air and water quality.

General membership meetings are held on the second Wednesday of February, April, June, October and December at the Antioch Library, 501 West 18th Street, Antioch, unless publicized otherwise.

Marin County Group

The Sierra Club Marin Group consists of the approximately 7,000 Club members who live in Marin County. All Club members who live here are also automatically members of the Group.

Major Marin Group activities include:

  • Organizing hikes and outings to visit and learn about Marin's natural beauty and resources: Point Reyes Seashore, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Mount Tamalpais State Park, China Camp State Park, Tomales Bay, and San Pablo Bay.
  • Presenting informative, entertaining programs about interesting places to travel, local hikes, and environmental issues.
  • Studying issues of importance to Marin's environment.
  • Speaking out on issues that affect Marin's environment: land development proposals, water supply, transportation, agriculture, parks, recreation, trails, wildlife protection, toxics, environmental justice.
  • Lobbying City, County, and other officials on these issues.

The Executive Committee of the Marin Group consists of up to 11 elected representatives of the membership. The Executive and Conservation Committees meet on the second Wednesday of every month at the offices of the Marin Conservation League, 1623-A Fifth Ave., San Rafael, CA 94901. The Executive Committee meets from 7-9pm. The Conservation Committee meets from 6-7pm, preceding the Executive Committee meeting.

Members are encouraged to participate, and to bring issues to the attention of the Committees. Standing committees consist of Conservation, Political, and Membership Program.

For more information, contact Marin Group Chair, Gordon Bennett, gbatmuirb-at-aol.com, or 415-663-1881.

For more information, see: Marin County Group.

Mount Diablo Group

The membership of the Mount Diablo Group is drawn from central Contra Costa County. Activities of the group include conservation, outings, an associated outdoor photography section and bi-monthly programs.

The Conservation Committee studies the environmental problems of the county. Interested members are invited to participate in its on-going activities.

Outings are an excellent means of meeting other people with similar interests in our beautiful outdoor environment. Our Outings program offers a variety of day hikes and other activities that appeal to members with a wide range of interests and abilities.

The Political Committee works closely with the Chapter to endorse candidates running for local public office. If interested, please call Kathleen Nimr at (925) 228-5746.

Our Executive Committee meets the fourth Wednesday of odd months at 7 PM. Members and guests are always invited. It is best to check with one of the officers at the general membership meeting for any changes and location.

General membership meetings are usually held the second Wednesday of January, March, May, July, September and November at 7:30 PM at the Winslow Center, 2590 Pleasant Hill Road, Pleasant Hill.

North Alameda County Group

Northern Alameda County (NAC) Group considers issues of appropriate urban economic and housing development, transportation and air quality, sustainability, natural resource protection, and environmental justice arising in the cities of Oakland, Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville, Alameda, Piedmont, and San Leandro.

NAC's Conservation Committee meets starting at 7:00 pm on the 4th Monday of every month at the San Francisco Bay Chapter Office of the Sierra Club, 2530 San Pablo Avenue (1 block south of the intersection of San Pablo and Dwight Way). (see http://www.511.org/ for Telegraph Ave. bus schedules)

NAC's 9-member Executive Committee convenes at the same place once the NAC Conservation Committee has adjourned (usually by 8:45 pm) to consider recommended conservation actions, political endorsements, and requests to urge actions on matters within purview of higher-level Club entities.
