Committees of the San Francisco Bay Chapter

For a complete list of committee members see the Leadership Roster.

Executive Committee
Our chapter's Executive Committee has seventeen voting members, including nine at-large members and one from each of the local groups' Executive Committees. Each fall, Chapter members elect volunteers to the chapter and group Executive Committees.

Activities Committee
The Activities Committee provides oversight for the chapter's diverse outings programs. All activity sections and regional groups may appoint delegates to the Activities Committee, which advises the Chapter's Executive Committee on outings-related policy. Chapter members are welcome to attend ActCom meetings (call the chapter office to confirm place and time of meeting). See Activities sections for details on the various activities sections and links to their web pages.

Conservation committees and subcommittees
Conservation committees and subcommittees provide leadership, direction, and guidance on conservation issues for the chapter and its local groups. The committee members are volunteers working on our conservation campaigns. Several local groups have conservation committees. In other groups, a single person, the Conservation Chair, performs a similar function. To see which group area you live in, or for links to group web pages, see Local groups.

Conservation Committee
The San Francisco Bay Chapter's Conservation Committee guides the chapter's conservation policy and makes recommendations to the San Francisco Bay Chapter Executive Committee and to Sierra Club entities at the regional, state, and national levels.

Focusing on local conservation issues and advocacy, the Conservation Committee is comprised of the volunteers who chair our conservation subcommittees and task forces, delegates from the chapter's eight regional groups, and chapter members. All chapter members are welcome at these meetings, usually held on the first Thursday of the month. (Please call to confirm the date and location.) Subcommittees
The Conservation Committee has eight subcommittees, each dealing with a different conservation issue:

  • East Bay Public Lands
  • Energy
  • Environmental Justice
  • Population
  • Presidio of San Francisco
  • Solid Waste
  • Transportation and Compact Growth
  • Wilderness
  • Wildlife

To get involved or for more information, you can contact the Chapter Conservation Committee Chair or one of the subcommittee chairs. Full contact information for all Bay Chapter committees can be found in the leadership roster.

From time to time, when it is not appropriate to create a full subcommittee, the Conservation Committee appoints a task force to represent the Sierra Club on a particular issue.
